Plasticizers

Plasticizers are additives that can increase the viscosity or plasticity of material. The main application is for plastics, especially polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Properties of other materials can also be improved when mixed with plasticizers such as clays, concrete and related products. Plasticizers used in plastics most commonly are phthalate esters. They give PVC improved flexibility and durability.

Diethylphtalate

Diethyl phthalate (DEP) is a phthalate ester, namely the diethyl ester of phthalic acid. It is a clear, nearly odorless liquid substance and is only slightly denser than liquid water. It is used as denaturent, fragrance ingredient, plasticizer and solvent.

Diisononyl phthalate

Diisononyl phthalate (DINP) is a clear, colorless, and almost odorless liquid chemical. It is soluble in most organic solvents. DINP is typically a mixture of chemical compounds consisting of various isononyl esters of phthalic acid. DINP is primarily used as a PVC plasticizer.
